Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has reacted to Kelechi Iheanacho’s important goal in his side’s 1-1 EPL draw against Swansea.
Manchester City scrapped into next season’s Champions League with a draw at Swansea City to secure fourth place in the Premier League because of a vastly superior goal difference to United, even if they win their postponed match against Bournemouth.

Iheanacho gave City an early lead, before Andre Ayew’s 12th EPL goal this term via a deflected free-kick in first-half stoppage time restored parity.

And the Chilean coach states that the incoming Bayern Munich boss is inheriting an exceptional prospect in Iheanacho: “I think he demonstrated how important he [Iheanacho] is. He is a very good player but he also must improve a lot. But a player of 19-years-old who scores so many goals and not playing all the games, I think has a brilliant future. I think all the fans of City will be delighted with him in the next years.”
It should be noted that City’s supporters have criticised Pellegrini for not blooding other young prospects within an ageing squad this term.
And Pellegrini responded: “I think maybe in the next years you will see some players from the academy. It’s not easy, you must remember that this club started a real process to be a big team in the last eight years. So when you are trying to have a big squad, maybe at the beginning the young players must be a bit postponed.”
“But I think now they are working very well in all the young divisions. We reached the [FA Youth Cup] final against Chelsea this season, so I’m sure with the way that this club wants to continue improving and growing in the future you will see young players in the first squad soon,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mirror, Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho in talks over a new contract.
The source reports that Manchester City striker demands a new contract worth £150,000-a-week as the 19-year-old has out-scored £49 million signing Raheem Sterling this season and feels his performances have earned him a significant pay-rise.
