Magic! Artist shows why black women should be proud of African heritage (photos)
Pierre Jean-Louis, an American visual artist, creates spellbinding portraits of black women by transforming their natural hair into flowers, trees and incredible galaxies.
By his series “Black Girl Magic” Pierre wants to inspire, motivate and celebrate black women. The artist encourages the women of colour to embrace their African heritage and be proud of it.
Talking to Bored Panda website Pierre explained the idea behind his project he started last September: “A lot of [black women] are brainwashed to not appreciate their natural beauty. Especially in 2016.

I just want them to see how we black men see them when they’re rocking their natural hair. We see nothing but #strong #Goddesses & #queens thank you.”

A similar initiative was launched by artist and activisr Kameelah Janan Rasheed, whose works inspired a viral hashtag #FlexinMyComplexion celebrating the rich darker skin tones among people of colour.
Another hashtag #TheAfricaTheMediaNeverShowsYou was used by millions of Africans to fight global media stereotypes about their continent and show the world its natural beauty, diverse culture, happy and talented people.
