BREAKING: Jonathan’s ex-chief secretary Hassan Tukur arrested by EFCC

 – The EFCC has arrested Hassan Tukur, principal secretary to former President Goodluck Jonathan

– Tukur was arrested on Monday, May 16 at his place of abode

– It remains unclear why Mr Tukur was apprehended by the antigraft agency

– The scribe to ex-president Jonathan is still held in custody, as interrogations are ongoing

Former chief personal secretary to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Hassan Tukur has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Premium Times reports that Tukur was picked up by operatives of the commission on Monday evening in his Abuja residence.

Sources say it remains unclear why Tukur was arrested, but the commission has been investigating how government monies were stolen and diverted for political purposes during the administration of Mr. Jonathan.

The EFCC is already prosecuting a former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki and many other top politicians.

The anti-graft agency also has in its custody a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who served as the director of publicity for the campaign organisation of Mr. Jonathan during the 2015 election.

The commission had also earlier arrested and granted bail to four former ministers who served under Jonathan.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, requested the question be sent via text message due to poor telephone signal

He did not revert after the message was sent to him. However, a competent source in the know of what transpired confirmed that Tukur was picked last night and is still with the EFCC,

In the same vein, the EFCC has revealed that it will soon invite former president Goodluck Jonathan when it is through with its investigation.

Several officials who served during the administration of Jonathan have been under the radar of the EFCC while some have been arrested and are facing charges.

The most notable being the distribution of funds through the office of the national security adviser to members of the Peoples Democratic Party for campaign.

Daily Trust reports that this was made known by Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the EFCC at the office of the BBC Hausa service in London.

When asked when Jonathan would be invited for questioning, Magu said: “Anybody that is involved in this scandal, we will invite him. It is only that we have to first establish our evidence. Anybody who is guilty, I swear, we will summon him wherever he is. And we have never invited anybody who is guilty. Anybody that we invited, we must have finished with our background study on him.

“We spend not just days for the background work but months until we establish the case before we issue invitation. That is why none of the people we invited has come out clean. Whoever stole public funds and we establish our evidence, I’m telling you we will invite him, without cover. That is how the work is. We compile dossiers of proofs and facts before we invite,” Magu said.
