Yewande Busari, a 24-year-old nursing mother has been electrocuted in Lagos but miraculously, her child strapped to her back survived.
According to Sahara Reporters, the tragic incident occurred on Friday, May 6 when Busari who had her one-year-old child, Pamilerin strapped to her back was trying to cross the highway at Oshodi when electric wires jutting out of streetlight pole electrocuted her.

It was reported that the victim did not use the overhead pedestrian bridge at the location.

The streetlight pole with the live wire still jutting out was said to have been carelessly abandoned by the government and the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company in charge of it.
Mr. Lekan Akorede who is the husband of the victim said Pamilerin has been discharged from the hospital and is with his grandparents. He lamented that the child can’t stop crying as he was fond of his mother.

“Since the accident, he has not stopped crying. Pamilerin was very fond of his mother and has refused to breastfeed from other mums who had offered to help.”

Tunde Busari who is the elder brother of the deceased blamed the government and the electric company for not taking charge of the situation that led to the tragic incident and not showing any concern after it.

“We have not heard anything from the government or seen anybody from them since my sister died. It was a government property that killed my sister, but nobody has come to pay us a visit.”

Yewande who graduated from Eko Akete Grammar school lived with her fiancé in Ebute Metta before her demise.
