The movie is actually jam-packed with references to other movies. Jason's "Ch Ch Ch Ah Ah Ah" theme from Friday the 13th can be heard waking Emma up later in the haunted mansion, and the girls discussing having the same nightmare is a nod to Nightmare on Elm Street.

References to both Princess Diana and Gianni Versace were removed from the film as both were alive during the filming, but died before the movie was released.
