The Bayelsa state government has blamed the security problems, including acts of economic sabotage, killing of soldiers and kidnapping in the state on chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region.

These attacks which have claimed several innocent lives have heightened the security situation in the state which was brought back to normalcy by the restoration government after the last governorship election.

Worried by the spate of attacks on security operatives and oil installations in Bayelsa state, the government of Seriake Dickson has severally expressed its readiness to work with the federal government and security agents to arrest the situation and bring to book, those behind it.

As a further demonstration this commitment, the governor will tomorrow hold a crucial meeting with security agencies and all community traditional rulers to sensitize and mobilise them on the roles they are expected to play, in reducing to the barest minimum, the present spate of criminality and violence in the State and the region.

The government has, however, blamed members of the opposition APC in the state for allegedly masterminding the dastardly attacks, noting that their plan is to destabilize the ‎system and give the impression that, Governor Dickson is incapable of providing security for residents of the state.

For the example the fraudulent commando style release in the court premises by APC stalewart of one Cockman, arrested and presented by the SSS for pipeline vandalism and sponsorship of a cult group.

In a statement signed by the state commissioner for information and orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite and released to newsmen in Yenagoa on Monday, May 16, the government pointed out that members of the APC are still pained by their landslide loss in the governorship election and have vowed to ensure that the second term of Dickson is frustrated through such attacks.

Addressing security issues amongst other issues during a live radio media chat in Yenagoa, Governor Seriake Dickson called on the APC led federal government and the security agencies to investigate the party’s so called leaders in Bayelsa state and the Niger Delta region to ascertain their roles in the recent spate of pipeline vandalism and other notable acts of economic sabotage in the region.

Governor Dickson, who described the activities of these leaders as most unfortunate and very sad, pointed out that, these acts are being planned and carried out to deliberately reduce the state’s quota in the quantity of crude oil it contributes to the nation’s overall production quota as well as deplete the state’s resources from the federation account.

According to him, their intention is to reduce the state’s crude oil production quota as much as possible, so that the government will have little or nothing to effectively carry out its development agenda, get discredited for non-performance and be voted out in the next governorship election of the State.

“It is so sad that, this group of so called leaders play politics with everything, including the economy of the country and the well-being of the citizenry, just because they want to score cheap political points. All for an election that is about 4 years away. For them, the state should stand still and nothing should happen, because someone wants to be governor in 2020.

Explaining further Obuebite stressed that the loss of revenue as a result of the destruction of oil facilities will continue if nothing is done quickly, insisting that the brazen assault is equally scaring genuine investors who are interested to come and do business in the state.

Since they lost the gubernatorial election they have employed various means to make this government lose focus and the latest is the assault on key national assets in the state and those guarding it”.

“That is why we are calling on the government at the center to arrest the criminals and their unpatriotic collaborators. We are willing to support any action that will bring an end to the bloodletting because we definitely cannot continue like this”. Obuebite concluded
