President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministers signed some agreements with the French government in Abuja during the visit of their president, Francois Hollande.

This was done by Nigeria’s minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun and the executive director, French Development Agency (AFD), Laurenace Breton Moyet who signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the activities of FDA in Nigeria over the next three years.

The photos made available by Femi Adesina, the president’s media aide, also showed that the minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and minister for information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed were in attendance.

It was gathered that the MoU signed were in the areas of electricity, agriculture and urban infrastructure, during the one-day visit of President Francois Hollande to Abuja on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, May 11, the minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, announced that fuel subsidy has been removed and the pump price of petrol had increased from N86.50 to N145 per litre.

The announcement has been trailed with controversy as some Nigerians are in support while others are not.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened a nationwide shutdown if the federal government failed to yield to their demand that the fuel price should be reversed to N86.50.

The strike is expected to commence on Wednesday, May 18 but there are chances that people may not join the protest and struggles.

A similar scenario played out in 2012, when Nigerians were welcomed into the New Year with the removal of subsidy by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
