'Spar' bans shopping in PJs
An alleged notice by grocery chain store the Spar Group, which bans customers from wearing sleepwear to its outlets, has caused outrage on social media.
|||Johannesburg - An alleged notice by grocery chain store the Spar Group, which bans customers from wearing sleepwear to its outlets, has caused outrage on social media.
The notice, which has the Spar Group logo at the top as well as a picture of pyjamas, began circulating on both Facebook and Twitter recently. It reads: “To avoid causing embarrassment to others, we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed when visiting the store.”
It also goes on to say: “Sleepwear/payama’s (sic) is not permitted.
People have since taken to social media to express their dismay over the notice prohibiting them from wearing their sleepwear to the hundreds of Spar stores across the country.
Among them was Rudy Airwane Suminwa, who shared the notice on Facebook and wrote: “They (Spar) not serious! You gonna tell me how I have to dress to come and shop???
“i must admit some ladies do not have the appropriate Pajamas, but even so!!”
Ashley Ashi Samboer said she would take her business elsewhere. She wrote on Facebook: “What k*k? For Spar? Nogal acting special, I’ll just go to a Checkers in my pajamas, THANK YOU.”
Corne Coco Muller agreed and also wrote on Facebook: “Okay, f*** you then, Spar. I will go to Woolworths in my pajamas.”
Johann van Heerden also shared the notice, captioning it: “This is the last straw.”
Contacted for comment, The Spar group told The Star they were not aware of the notice and did not give any further details.
