– The Lagos state commissioner for special duties and inter-governmental relations has revealed that fire accidents in the state has claimed the lives of 89 people
– The fire accidents has also destroyed properties worth N17.72 billion in the last one year
Fire has burnt to death 89 people and destroyed properties worth N17.72 billion in Lagos state in the last one year.
This was disclosed by the Lagos state commissioner for special duties and inter-governmental relations, Oluseye Oladejo on Tuesday, May 17, in Lagos.
According to him, properties estimated at N17.72 billion were destroyed by fire while properties estimated at N106.32 billion were saved from being burnt by fire by fire servicemen in the last one year.

Oladejo disclosed that 89 people were burnt to death in several fire disasters in Lagos as 118 people were rescued alive during fire operation across the state.
He added that in the last one year, 1,772 calls were received by the fire agency, out of which 1,476 were calls made to alert the fire service of outbreak of fire in different parts of Lagos state.
The commissioner disclosed that 11 cases of collapsed buildings were witnessed in Lagos in the last one year, while 136 rescue calls were made to the agency as well as 149 false calls.
He said the achievement recorded by the fire service was as a result of the tremendous support and encouragement received from the current administration.
Meanwhile tragedy struck in Lagos, when an overnight fire roasted four people and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
A fire outbreak at number 5 Adebiyi Street, Somolu Oja razed the entire house and killed a father and two daughters The fire was said to have been caused by indiscriminate storage of Petroleum Premium Spirit (PMS) by the father.
