True to its words, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has begun its nationwide strike to protest government’s increase of petrol price and electricity tariffs in Abuja and Lagos.
Recall that NLC had vowed to go ahead with its scheduled nationwide strike on today, May 18 after walking out of the meeting held with the representatives of the Federal Government.
NLC said they were angered by the decision of the Federal Government to proceed to court, despite existing negotiation which was at the instance of the government.

According to reports by Premium Times, labour leaders began the marched at about 9AM from Labour House in central district of Abuja to the federal secretariat, where the president of the congress, Aliyu Wabba, addressed workers.

The procession of unionists and workers, decked in t-shirts and displaying flags, is to move to the Berger Junction in Abuja, and will continue every day until the government rescinds its decision, Mr. Wabba said.

In Lagos, both members of the Nigeria Labour Union and the Trade Union Congress are currently protesting the fuel hike from the labour house in Yaba, they marched to Maryland and ended at Airport road in Ikeja area of the state.
