Chibok girls: Army makes major announcement on rescued girl (updated)
– The Nigerian army has confirmed the rescue of a Chibok girl
– Falmata Mbalala was found by vigilantes in Borno state with a baby
– After her rescue Mbalala reported that six of the other Chibok girls have died in captivity
The Nigerian army has confirmed that a girl rescued in a Boko Haram stronghold the northeast of Nigeria is one of 219 abducted from their school in Chibok more than two years ago.
“In continuation of Operation CRACKDOWN, troops of 25 Brigade Damboa with Civilian JTF deployed in one of the blocking positions at Baale, near Damboa, rescued one Miss Amina Ali and a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Hayatu,” who claimed to be her husband, army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement.

“Both were brought to Headquarters 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa at about 2.30pm today. Preliminary investigation shows that she is indeed one of the abducted Chibok School girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on 14th April 2014 in Chibok and her name is Amina Ali as against Falmata Mbalala that was earlier stated.
“In addition, she is a nursing mother with a 4 month old baby girl who was named Safiya. Both the suspected Boko Haram terrorist and the nursing mother have been taken to Maiduguri for further medical attention and screening.”
Damboa is located 90 kilometres (56 miles) southwest of the capital of Borno state capital Maiduguri.

According to Tunji Olarenwaju, a member of the strategic team of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, Nkeki made the revelations under interrogation.
“She said all of them are still in Sambisa forest, that six were already dead. She added that they are well secured and protected from the Nigerian army. She has been talking to troops at Damboa after verifying her to the Chibok Community at home,” Olanrewaju told TheCable.

Activists and community leaders said she was found on Tuesday night and brought to meet her mother in the town of Mbalala, near Chibok, before being taken to a military base in Damboa.
“The girl was found by local vigilantes in Kilakesa village on the edge of Sambisa Forest near Damboa, Manaseh Allan,” a Chibok youth leader told AFP.

“She was brought first to Chibok by the vigilantes who took her to the vice-principal of her school, who immediately identified her as Aisha Ali, which is her name in the school register.”
“She was presented to community leaders as Amina Ali but her name as it appears in the school register is Aisha Ali.
“It is common for children in Chibok to be called with one name in school and another at home.”
