Read how Jurgen Klopp reacted to Europa League final defeat
– Sevilla smashed Liverpool 3-1
– The spanish club have won the EL title for an unprecedented third straight successive time
– Liverpool manager reacts to the sensational defeat
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that he must shoulder the blame himself, as his team lost all shape and discipline.
The Sevillistas Los Rojiblancos came from behind to defeat Jurgen Klopp’s men 3 – 1 at the St. Jakob-Park stadium in Basel.
And Klopp refused to blame his players: “It was obvious the first goal was a big influence on our game – we lost faith in our style of play. We changed from passing simply and quick to slow and complicated and lost our formation, it was not compact any more. But in my situation as a manager of the team, all you have to do is self criticism and nothing else.
“It is my job to help the players react in different situations better, so I can improve a lot,” he added.

However, Jurgen Klopp blamed the officials for refusing to give two first half penalties: “Everybody told me about two handballs in the first half. Today there were four decisive decisions, very obvious decisions that went against us in a final. When it’s close you need a little luck in a final and we hadn’t. But it wasn’t an influence on this – it was our game.”
He continued: “I’ve been around the block, this is not a situation I’ve seen many times in a final, and never in a final have I had a bad decision made in my favour. Today there were two penalties, and other decisions against us. Having said that, the important thing to do when you lose is look at the man in the mirror and criticise yourself. That is what we will do.”
Klopp stressed that Liverpool will come back stronger – and take final glory next time: “We are not in Europe next season now, and we need to use the experience, use the time we have now to train. It is clear the team will be a little bit different next year, it’s clear we will do something with transfers that’s clear, but first of all we have to use the experience, because I am sure we are in another final, and next time we know we have to do better.

“Tomorrow, we will see it a little more clear and we will use this,” the coach concluded.
Before the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had hinted that he was not sure his side could beat the defending champions: “There is no frustration. Before a final I think only about a performance. All you can do is win or lose! All the teams I have had in finals performed really well and had close games, so I am not frustrated with my final record. Sure, I could have won more, but that is how it is.”
