Buzzing pop singer Yemi Alade who is currently in the UK for a media tour in promotion of her sophomore album, Mama Africa, has spoken to popular English DJ and media personality Tim Westwood on a number of issues ranging from her career to the new album, the growth in Nigerian music, her inspirations musically and more.
In the exclusive chat with Tim, the singer said she was in the UK to promote Mama Africa as well as finalize plans for her UK tour set to hold soon.

The Ferrari singer stated that the album has been well received and when asked what her favourite song off the album is she said every day brings her closer to a new song hence she cannot say which is her favourite

On her song Na Go De and Ferrari and coming off as a bit of a materialistic lady in respect to the message she conveyed, she said:
“There comes to a point in a female’s life when you are like ‘do you know what? Sometimes, love has to be materialistic. At least let me have something to show for this relationship’.
“Na Gode means thank you and it is in the Hausa language from Nigeria. The story behind it is reminding people to thank God no matter what situation they’re in, good or bad, it’s only a matter of time. It flips up and gets better.”
The singer also touched on a secret project she has in the works with African pop veteran 2baba.

In recent years, Yemi has risen from relative obscurity to the forefront of Nigerian entertainment with several hit songs such as Johnny, Tangerine and the recently released Ferrari off her latest album Mama Africa.
She has also held strong views about the empowerment of females especially in the Nigerian society.
In her words, she believes in females rising to the top in chosen endeavours and she does not care if this makes her appear like a feminist.
Yemi Alade speaks to Tim Westwood on Mama Africa album
In a 2016 interview with Vanguard, she said:

“No woman is living on an island with only females; if being a feminist means I strongly believe that the girl child can do just as well as the male child, then call me a feminist.
“But if that’s not it, then I’m not that.
“I believe that there is that struggle for the females but I don’t believe that because of that struggle we should be sleeping at our posts.
“So when you see the challenge, you rise above it; so any woman that is seeing this challenge and sitting at home and crossing her legs, she has decided to fail. Not my business.”
Yemi Alade is a multi award-winning Afro Pop singer. Her new album Mama Africa dropped in 2016 and has been greeted by mixed reviews.
