– The major part of the Idimu and Orisunbare roads are no longer motor-able for motorists
– The place have been abandoned by those elected by the elected local government officials who promised to repair it
Residents of Idimu and Orisunbare communities in Egbe-Edimu Local Government Development Council (LGDC) have appeal to both Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and local authority to fix the only major road in the area.
According to the residents, the road has been in dismal condition for more than decades, saying that all efforts to get the attention of the authorities concern have failed to yield any positive outcome.
Most part of the road is no longer motor-able as motorists plying the route now use streets in the area as an alternative especially when it rains.
The Idimu-Ejigbo bypass is a major route starting from Iyana-Ejigbo via Orilowo; straight down to Ikotun-Egbeda and Iyana-Ipaja road. The entrance to the road from Idimu and the boundary area between Idimu and Ejigbo is the worst part; as the place is becoming near impossible for motorists and motorcyclists.

Festus Atinse, a resident of Idimu, told NAIJ.com that the thought of plying the road is a source of worries for many motorists and that the situation is worst when it rains heavily.
“Nobody wants to bring his car to this road these days. Commercial motorcyclists even don’t agree to carry you on this road; you would be charge heavily because of the road condition. When you come a little farther as you enter the road from Orilowo to the military zone, from there onward the place is not motor-able.
“It is nearby streets that motorists have resorted to as alternative. The road is also very bad as you approach Ikotun-Egbeda road. We are appealing to Governor Ambode and the local government authority to come to our rescue,” he said.
Babatunde Moruf , a resident of Orisunbare, said the place have been abandoned by those elected by the people for the same purpose and accused the local government elected officials (Chairman and Counsellors) of reneging in their electoral promise to fix the road if elected.

“They come here during elections to make all sort of promises because our votes are needed. Maybe they are deliberately doing it so that they can continue to use the road to woo our votes,” he said.
He told NAIJ.com that the road was once a very smooth route most motorists who knew its existence had used to connect Ikotun, Iyana- Ipaja and other communities in close proximity, adding that it was shocking to him government could neglect such a strategically located road.
“This very road can connect you directly to even places as hidden as Ipaja and Ayobo. It is a very important route that if repair could ease traffic on Ikotun-Egbe-Express road because of its heavy concentration. We are appealing to government to come and at least, patch the road for us if fixing it properly is too much to ask,” he said in dissatisfaction.
“The only thing I personally think we can keep doing is to continue to appeal to the authorities concern to help us fix this road,” said Olatunji Eniyan, a resident of Idimu.
According to him, negative experiences on the Idimu-Ejigbo bypass had led him to ask his pregnant wife to avoid using commercial motorcycles as means of transportation in order to avoid miscarriage.
The Chairman of Egbeda-Idimu Local Government Development Authority was said not to be on seat when he was visited in his Akowonjo’s office to comment on the issue raised.
As the residents waits in hope that either the LGDA or the state government would someday make the hope of a motor-able Idimu- Ejigbo road a reality, one thing is sure, motorists plying the road are currently doing so at the detriment of their vehicles and health.
