Governor Okezie Ikpeazu recently paid an unscheduled visit to Ariaria International Market, Aba where he received a rousing welcome by the mammoth crowd of traders.

Governor Ikpeazu’s effort geared towards putting Ariria International Market and other markets in the state in good shape may have informed the decision of the traders to show love to their leader.

The governor established the Abia State Market Development Committee by Ikpeazu’s administration, led by Chief Solomon Nwaigwe to ensure that markets across the state are of international standard.

Governor Ikpeazu’s visit to the market was to inspect the ongoing construction of roads around the market which is expected to further open up the market and boost commercial activities around it.
The ongoing construction includes a drainage system that will tackle the flooding int he area and also a dedicated bus route which will take traders to and from the market to reduce traffic around the market.

On his part, Chief Nwaigwe hinted that construction of all the routs inside the Main Timber Market at Uratta along the Enugu Port-Harcout Highway will commence soon.

Governor Ikpeazu had since hinted on plans that his administration is making efforts to ensure that Made-in-Aba products take over major Nigerian markets soon.
Ikpeazu was recently in the news for his bold decision to boycott eating of foreign rice.
The governor, it was gathered, has refused to take foreign rice in the last six months as he has reportedly struck it out of his menu.
His reason is that he wants to demonstrate to everyone that Nigeria, with her rich agricultural potentials, has the capacity to fend for itself in food production.
