Here's A Look At The Beat Generation's Most Rare And Iconic Letter

Jack Kerouac is arguably one of the most important figures from the Beat Generation.

He wrote On the Road, the famous novel based on his cross-country travels and adventures, and he also had some pretty notable writer friends like Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs.

One of his good pals was Neal Cassady, another major player in the Beat Generation and counterculture movement of the 1960s.

He also served as the basis for the character Dean Moriarty in On the Road.

Back in the day, Cassady wrote his pal Kerouac a 40-page letter that went on to be part of the inspiration for On the Road's writing style. Now, the nearly 13,000 word letter, which had been lost for a time, is being auctioned off at Christie's Auction House‎.
