Woman’s body found in farm silo
A Nottingham Road man who followed a bloody trial from outside his house discovered the body of his 28-year-old daughter dumped in a farm silo.
|||Durban - The body of a 28-year-old woman was found dumped in a silo on a farm in Nottingham Road on May 14.
Nqobile Mabaso’s body was discovered by her distraught father in an old, unused silo on the Kwa-Harry Farm at Balgowan, Nottingham Road.
Police spokeswoman, Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala, said it was suspected Mabaso had been raped before she was murdered, and her body thrown into the silo on the farm.
“Her father was told of a blood trail outside of his house and, when he followed it, he made the gruesome discovery of his daughter’s body,” Gwala said.
Gwala also said the father identified his daughter by the socks she was wearing. Her body was in the silo and her head was covered by her dress and jersey.
“Members of the Search and Rescue Unit responded to the scene and assisted to recover the body,” Gwala said.
Mabaso sustained an open wound to the back of her head and abrasions on her body, leading police to believe that she was dragged on the ground to the silo.
Her cellphone was missing.
According to police investigations, Mabaso was last seen alive on the farm by the farm manager at 9.30pm on the night she was killed.
Gwala confirmed that a 25-year-old suspect had been arrested and found in possession of Mabaso’s cellphone.
The suspect appeared in court this week and was remanded in custody until May 23 for a formal bail application.
