There had been speculations that ousted Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will take over from the manager at the Old Trafford.
When asked outside United’s team hotel in London about his future Van Gaal simply said: “No, no, no, it’s over.”
Van Gaal’s two-year reign as United manager has been an increasingly rocky one over the last six months, with fans and pundits alike criticising the team’s style of play under the Dutchman.
The coaches have previous experience working together during their time at Barcelona in the late 1990s, while United vice chairman Ed Woodward remains determined to use the Dutchman’s vast experience to the club’s advantage.

Recall that although, Manchester United thrashed Bournemouth 3 – 1 in their final league game of the 2015/2016 season, the result was not enough to put them in the top four spot for a chance to play at next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The club finished fifth on the EPL standings and will play at the Europa League competition next season.
