Killers of kidnapped Col. Samaila caught in Anambra and Ebonyi
A prime suspect in the killing of Colonel Samaila Inusa has recounted how the crime was committed, The Sun reports.
Inusa was abducted in the presence of his wife on March 26 at NNPC junction in Kaduna state; his decomposing body was found two days after.
The suspect, Emeka (other name witheld) confessed there was no intention to kill the army colonel as they only wanted to snatch his car.
He revealed that Inusa snatched the gun from one of the abductors and started struggling with them. During the fight the colonel got shot as one bullet was already in the panel.
Emeka added that after that they were moved away and sold the car for N800, 000.
“One Sunday evening, we were on patrol; any vehicle we saw, we would snatch. It was in the process that we saw Colonel Inusa’s car from Police College coming down to Refinery Junction where we collected the car.
“Immediately, we handed over the car to Dan-Sokoto and he took it away. Thereafter, we took him to Abuja By-pass. I asked him to lie down and relax his mind because we were only interested in the car, not his life.

“I told him; you are bigger than this car, and can afford to buy another car’. Shortly after, he said he wanted to drink water, so, I went to the car to bring pure water for him. As I bent down to give him water, the man snatched the gun from me and quickly removed the magazine.
“But one bullet was already in the panel. He was holding the gun butt and I was holding the mouth. So, we were dragging the gun. At a point, the gun was facing me and attempted to pull the trigger, but I succeeded in turning the gun to his direction. He pulled the trigger and fired himself.
“I told him, we didn’t want to kill you, but you have killed yourself now. But, that man nearly killed me.”
“We didn’t know he was a military officer. It was a week after we killed the Colonel we started reading on the pages of newspapers and on social media that the man we killed was a senior military officer. We specialised in car snatching, we are not kidnappers,” he said.
The Kaduna state police command in collboration with the inspector general of police Intelligence Response Team tracked down and arrested four men on suspicion of kidnapping and murder of Colonel Inusa.
The smashing of the criminal syndicate became possible only after the technical and human intelligence assets of the force detected the signal from the phone stolen from the colonel and used by a prison warder, Abdullahi Adamu, who is a close ally of the suspects.
