– The goalkeeper rejected a move to Real Madrid to work under Jose Mourinho 

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea states that the Red Devils were right to appoint Jose Mourinho.

Louis Van Gaal praised the Spanish goalkeeper’s contributions to United success in the past seasons. He also expressed his joy that “one of the best goalkeepers in world football” decided to commit his future.

Mourinho was appointed United boss  after Louis Van Gaal left the club while De Gea almost joined Real Madrid last summer but a broken fax machine scuppered the transfer on deadline day.

And De Gea believes that Mourinho can lead United back to the top : “I came to United to win trophies. It is true these last two years we have not been at the level the club deserves”.

He added: “We hope that Mourinho, with his will to win, will make sure United to return to the top. I have not spoken with Mourinho and not asked team-mates about him. I think we already know him.”
