The caretaker committee was constituted on Saturday, May 21, at the party’s national convention which held in Port Harcourt.
They were formally inaugurated on Tuesday, June 7, with only two functions mentioned which were: the chairman, Makarfi and the secretary, Obi, while other members of the Committee had no portfolios assigned to them.
The caretaker committee was appointed because a vacuum was created in the party after Ali Modu Sheriff was sacked as its national chairmen. They will manage the affairs of the party for the meantime.
However, Sheriff has refused to accept his removal as national chairman of the party. He told a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, that he is still the national chairman of the party.
