Suspected hijackers shot in Pinetown

Two men were shot while allegedly trying to hijack a man who was inspecting his car on the Hans Dettman Highway in Pinetown.

Durban - Two men were shot and wounded when they tried to hijack a man near Pinetown on Friday.

According to police, the incident took place when a motorist experienced a mechanical breakdown on the Hans Dettman Highway.

While inspecting his car, the man was approached by two unknown suspects who robbed him of his wallet and cellphone.

The man drew his firearm and fired shots in the direction of the suspects, wounding both. Both were taken to hospital under police guard.

A firearm was recovered from the suspects and a case of armed robbery has been opened for investigation.
