Former first lady, TB Joshua, others honoured in Abuja
– Prominent Nigerians from all works of life have been honoured in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja
– The awards was organised by a group called Patriots In Leadership and Service (PILAS)
– The event was held at the prestigious Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja
The 2016 PILAS Awards was held recently and it was an opportunity for some prominent Nigerians to be rewarded for their hardwork and contributions to nation building.
First to be honoured was Hajiya Turai Yar’adua, former first lady of Nigeria who bagged the award for PILAS ‘Woman of the Year’

The organisers of the award said the reason for honouring Hajiya Yar’adua was because of her role as a mother to the nation and a mentor to state first ladies during her time in office.
The organisers also extolled her for the supportive role she played during her husband’s illness which eventually led to his death.
Hajiya Yar’adua was also hailed for initiating her pet project on cancer eradication and her clamour for more women in governance.
In the lifetime integrity category of the awards, those who were honoured include the general overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations; Prophet Temitope Joshua, former military head of state; General Yakubu Gowon; former vice president; Dr Alex Ekwueme and business moguls; Tony Elumelu and Folorunsho Alakija among others.

In the government level category, those who were honoured include the deputy Senate President; Ike Ekweremadu, governors Nyesome Wike, Hassan Dankwambo, Olusegun Mimiko and Okezie Ikpeazu.

The event featured a paper presentation by Mr Patrick Okigbo, with the title ‘Nigeria without oil – Focusing on the Fundamentals’
Meanwhile, former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that his proudest moment as Nigerian leader was the peaceful handover to his successor and incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari.
