Arsenal's Olivier Giroud is first goalscorer at Euro 2016 after netting for France vs Romania
Olivier Giroud is the first goalscorer at Euro 2016 after netting for hosts France against Romania at Stade de France on Friday night.
The Arsenal striker beat Romania goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu all too easily in the air to head home the first goal of the tournament after 57 minutes, making up for a number of missed chances earlier in the game.
However, the hosts' lead was short-lived as Bogdan Stancu equalised from the penalty spot just three minutes later as Patrice Evra fouled Nicolae Stanciu in the box.
Didier Deschamps' side kicked off in Paris following an opening ceremony which saw a performance by Euro 2016's 'musical ambassador' David Guetta.
The 48-year-old was unveiled was tasked with providing tracks for broadcast title sequences around the world, while his music will be played at each stadium to give the tournament a 'musical identity'.
But Friday night wasn't only about the football - Uefa staged an opening ceremony prior to kick-off, with superstar DJ David Guetta headlining proceedings.
The French producer performed his tournament anthem 'This One's For You' alongside Swedish singer-songwriter Zara Larsson while 600 choreographed dancers added to the spectacle.
