The 2017 US military budget passed quickly through the Senate partly due to the recent shooting in Orlando. The House’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) allows for US citizens to be detained without due process, and both the Senate and the House’s version seek to block the closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
