The mural unveiling was meant to celebrate the history of Toronto’s gay community and serve as a reckoning for the 1981 bathhouse raids. On Feb. 5, 1981, 286 men were arrested on charges of prostitution and indecency when cops stormed Toronto’s four largest bathhouses and rounded gay men up.
