The vice chancellor said: “We continue to encourage and support research relevant to our nation. I will just give two examples of our recent breakthrough which can be of great use in our country. First is the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potentials of lemon juice and sorghum mixture against paracetamol-induced liver damage in rat.
“In drug development, drugs are first given to lower animals like mice and later it will be given to animals like chimpanzees. The last set to be given will be human beings. This mixture is effective against liver damage in rats.”
Also, according to Punch the director of academic planning of the university, Prof. Temitope Oyedepo, in an said the mixture was already successful since it had been administered on a patient with damaged liver and the patient was cured.
She then explained that to certify the drug as a complete success it needed to be administered to more patients from other geo-political regions in the country.
Oyedepo said: “Presently we were able to detect the antioxidants ability of that mixture, lemon and ‘ogi mixture.’ We discovered that they have antioxidants properties. We get free radicals from the environments even sometimes from the food we eat especially from these processed food.
“Some of these free radical oxidation in the body are responsible for liver damage, cancer and metabolic problems that people are having nowadays .
“So, we discovered that the mixture have the antioxidant properties are able to fight those free radicals and stop them from moving on to destroy any part of the body whether cells or tissues.
“The second one that we are able to identify is the specific types of chemical that are responsible,we called it phytochemical, they are chemicals from plant that are specifically responsible for that liver protection and those were the further things we are able to work on.

“Thanks to media for the earlier publication, like I said we are calling on volunteers. We were able to get one volunteer from the South West, it was administered and the result is positive and the person was a patient but now that person is taking the mixture the person is free from liver damage. and after about three months the person have been cleared ill.
“We are calling on others volunteers in other part of the country and I would want it to even go beyond the country like people from Asia and others races that are suffering from this aliment so that it can be cured.”
Meanwhile, the federal government today issued a stern warning to all universities in the country.
According to Daily Post the ministry stated that: “Universities have no business admitting candidates other than those sent to it by JAMB but could screen candidates to remove those with anti-social traits and suspicious credentials”. “All these should be done upon resumption. No university is allowed to have anything to do with any applicant who is not its student. Screening and registration are only for those who have been admitted by JAMB.”
