Shocking: What Magu, EFCC boss, did to journalists when asked about Buratai’s Dubai mansion
– The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been under pressure to commence investigation into how Tuku Buratai acquired the Dubai mansions
– Just after an event, Magu who had lamented the injuries corruption had caused Nigeria and threatened to go after lawyers aiding it, evaded questions concerning Buratai
– He also lamented situations where a civil servant could pay up to N800 million as legal fee to lawyer wondering how such a civil servant could make such an amount.
It was a major drama on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 when the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, dodged questions concerning the two Dubai mansions purchased by Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s army chief.

There had been calls by Nigerians including Femi Falana, a prominent Nigerian, for Buratai to resign or that the president should sack him for acquiring the mansions allegedly worth $1.5 million.
But A civil society organisation, Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) said Falana’s call for the army chief’s sack is like a lawyer interpreting the constitution like a bible.
While departing the Rockview Classic Hotel, in Abuja, where a one-day workshop on anti-corruption, ethics of the legal profession and justice sector, was held, journalists had approached him for an interview.
Punch reports that Magu, who had earlier adjusted himself to take questions from the journalists, suddenly turned back and entered into his car immediately the first question that was asked bothered on Buratai.

However, while speaking at the event co-organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the presidential advisory committee against corruption, Magu had reeled out the injuries caused Nigeria by corruption.
He also reportedly threatened that his commission would start going after lawyers who aid corruption by assisting their clients launder money.

He lamented a situation where a civil servant could pay as much as over N800 million as legal fee to lawyer wondering how such a civil servant could make such an amount.
“I don’t want to mention some of our strategies, but we will start going after people now.
“If you are involved in laundering money, we will go after you it doesn’t matter who you are because the law does not respect anybody – whether you are the EFCC chairman, whether you are SAN.

“Sooner or later we will look at how people assist people to buy properties with stolen funds, how people assist others to escape justice and we will go after them.
“But for now, I want to say, please, join us in the fight against corruption to save this country so that our children and grandchildren will have a greater Nigeria,” he said at the event.
