PDP crisis: Sheriff opens up about his political godfather, denies Kashamu
– Ali Modu Sheriff has denied ever having a political godfather in all his years in politics
– He denied insinuations that Senator Kashamu Buruji was his current godfather
– the embattled former PDP chairman warned party members across the country to stop what he termed “smear campaign”
The embattled factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has denied claims that Senator Buruji Kashamu was his political godfather.
According to him, the news of Senator Kashamu being his godfather was a deliberate smear campaign that would achieve nothing tangible, Daily Trust reports.
A statement by his special adviser on media, Inuwa Bwala, on Tuesday, July 12, said such claims could neither distract Sheriff nor pitch him against his supporters in the party.

According to him, Sheriff has grown beyond the level of a man to have someone like Kashamu as his political godfather,
He added that Sheriff had “an intimidating political credential” and does not need a godfather to survive.
The statement read: “While it remains obvious that the said report was part of the mischief and orchestrated smear campaigns embarked upon by some people against the national chairman, we wish to state, for the avoidance of doubt that, he has no godfather in politics and Senator Buruji Kashamu could not have been one.
“We must state that it was most uncharitable for anybody to imply that Senator Kashamu, who, like every stakeholder in the PDP, is highly respected, and who makes inputs towards the progress of the PDP, is Senator Sheriff’s godfather, as nothing could be further from the truth.”

Bwala said Sheriff’s critics had run out of ideas on how to achieve their selfish agenda and have now resorted to blackmail to distract him from showing his capacity to reposition the PDP.
He urged the leaders and members of the party to find a lasting solution to the leadership crisis rocking the party instead of planting false stories about Sheriff in some sections of the media.
Sheriff was sacked as the national chairman of the PDP at the May 21 national convention of the party in Port Harcourt. He has however, continued to lay claim to the office of the PDP national chairman despite a court judgment to the contrary.
The PDP inaugurated a seven-man national caretaker committee headed by Ahmed Makarfi but Sheriff described the caretaker committee as illegal.
A one time national vice chairman of the PDP, Chief Ishola Filani has described Sheriff as an ignorant man.
The Federal High Court ruled on Monday, July 4 ruled that the decision of the PDP to dissolve the Sheriff-led executive and appoint a caretaker committee, led by Markafi was not illegal.
