The ex-England international, 28, was ‘obviously disappointed’, said lawyers who plan fresh attempts to secure his freedom.

Johnson was jailed for six years in March for sexual activity with a 15-year-old fan after he groomed the girl with numerous text messages.

The millionaire, who was earning £60,000 a week, also admitted cheating on his girlfriend Stacey Flounders, 26, with a number of female fans.

Johnson’s sister Faye has campaigned for him and posted on Twitter that she was ‘absolutely devastated’ by the ruling from an Appeal Court judge in London.

The Sunderland midfielder was recently visited by his daughter Ayla, 18 months, in prison in South Yorkshire for the first time after it was ruled he posed no danger to her. – Daily Mail
