Hawks arrest two for card skimming

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has arrested two Zimbabweans in connection with an alleged card scam.

Cape town - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has arrested two Zimbabweans in connection with an alleged card scam.

Police spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said in a statement on Tuesday that Cape Town waiter, 39-year-old Makanyra Manyika, was arrested at a local restaurant at the weekend.

Ramovha said she was allegedly found in possession of an illegal point of sale device.

Follow-up investigations led the Hawks to 29-year-old Liberty Tsambirwa who was arrested at a residential address and is believed to be the supplier of the devices.

“Eighteen cloned cards and two laptops, as well as memory sticks found in his possession were seized.”

The pair will appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application on Monday, July 18. They will be charged with contravening the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
