Moreso, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that was against the price increase described the court judgement as “courageous and deserving of commendation.”
In a statement issued by the NLC’s president Ayuba Wabba, it reads: “We also consider it victory for the ordinary Nigerian who has been crushed by exploitative bills.” The labour body advised both NERC and (Distribution Companies) DISCOs to obey the court judgement and reverse to the old rates without any further delay.
The electricity commission increased the electricity tariff which became effective despite a resolution of the National Assembly and a restraining court order against the tariff increment.
About five days ago, the suit opposing the federal government’s decision to increase electricity tariff was filed by a Lagos-based lawyer.
