Yes, A Scene In "Star Wars: Rogue One" Was Filmed On The Underground
At Star Wars Celebration Europe in London, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards confirmed speculation that Canary Wharf was used for a scene in the film.
But on Friday at Star Wars Celebration Europe in London Docklands, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards confirmed that scenes were filmed overnight at nearby Canary Wharf station.
"My first job ever in television was just round the corner from where we are right now and I used to pass it everyday and go through the Docklands, the DLR, and all these train stations", said Edwards in front of a packed audience. "[I thought:] This is something from the future. This is like a sci-fi movie. If I ever get to do a sci-fi film in my life I'm gonna film it here."
He said he had the idea when they were filming Rogue One: "One day when we were trying to figure out how to do these really long shots that involve a lot of running and building big, massive sets and we were trying to be clever about it, I was like, let's go and film it at the Docklands – it looks futuristic. They were like, hahaha, very funny."
