AMD climbs on narrower-than-expected loss

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. shares advanced in Thursday's extended session after the chip maker turned in a narrower-than-expected loss on a non-GAAP basis. AMD reported it swung to second-quarter earnings of $69 million, or 8 cents a share, from a loss of $181 million, or 23 cents a share, a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, the company would have lost 5 cents a share. Revenue rose to $1.03 billion from $942 million. Analysts had forecast an adjusted loss of 9 cents a share on revenue of $951 million, according to a FactSet survey. AMD gained 1.5% in after-hours trading.
