Ekurhuleni - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe says South Africans should come out in their numbers to cast their votes because people died for this important right.

Mantashe, who voted at Freeway Park Primary School in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, was accompanied by his son Buya Mantashe and a few ANC members.

He did not skip the line and chatted to residents while waiting to make his cross.

Mantashe, who was wearing an ANC T-shirt, seemed jovial and upbeat as he joked and told journalist that his vote was nobody’s business.

“My vote is a secret. People must come out in their numbers to vote a lot of people sacrificed their lives for this,” he said.

Mantashe also said he was confident that the ANC would do well and he would spend Wednesday night watching the votes trickle in at the IEC’s national results centre in Pretoria.

“I am going to be visiting stations now and phone around see where there are problems. We worked very hard and we will see results because we worked very hard,” said Mantashe.
