DA’s Mashaba ‘quite confident’

DA mayoral candidate for hotly contested Johannesburg cast his vote in Sandton, after quickly swapping a red jersey for a blue one.

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance mayoral candidate for hotly contested Johannesburg cast his vote in Sandton on Wednesday, after quickly swapping a red jersey for a blue one.

Mashaba and his wife Connie and their daughter Khensani patiently waited in a queue at the Sandton Fire Station which served as a voting station for the local government polls.

“The last seven months we were determined to get the voters behind us. It’s now up to the voters to decide but we are quite confident about the outcome... whatever decision they make we’ll respect,” he said.

Earlier Mashaba went to support DA leader Mmusi Maimane wearing a colourful jersey that had some red stripes.

“I was told to change my jersey because it had some red on it and put on a blue one,” Mashaba joked.

He complimented the IEC on the efficiency of the voting process.

“We want the country to work so efficiently and get such service. Let’s hope the entire day can run so smoothly.”

Mashaba went on to urged South Africans to go out en masse to vote.

“You have the opportunity go out there and vote for change and make a difference.”
