|||Ekurhuleni - Residents of Boksburg in Ekurhuleni braved bitterly cold winds on Wednesday morning and have started queuing to cast their votes for the local government elections.
ANC general-secretary Gwede Mantashe is expected to cast his vote at Freeway Primary School in the town later on Wednesday.
People young and old stood chatting in lines with some carrying cups of coffee to keep warm.
First-time voter Kyle van Vught, 20, said he was making his mark because he wanted to see better services in his community.
He also shared some encouraging words with his peers who may be considering not voting.
“If young people want to see change they should vote because their vote is their voice,” said Van Vught.
There are concerns that the youth, who are disenchanted with poor service delivery and a lack of jobs, may stay away from the polls.
Another resident, Jerry Mashao, said he arrived at 6am to be the first voter, but found he was number 10.
