|||Durban - The IEC has dismissed electoral staff in Ward 95, Folweni, south of Durban.
KwaZulu-Natal's IEC commissioner Thabani Ngwira said this was due to irregularities in terms of administering special vote earlier this week.
The special votes took place on Monday and Tuesday and was for registered voters who could not vote on Wednesday.
At the local government elections, voters in metros are give two ballots - one to cast a vote for a ward councillor and one to cast a vote for a proportional representative.
“They were supposed to put the two ballots into two envelopes,” Ngwira said.
“They didn't do this so the commission decided to dismiss them”.
Emergency staff have since been deployed to the area and Ngwira said things were running smoothly.
The Daily News reported earlier this year that registration at voting stations in ward 95 was delayed due to community protests.
