Chants of ‘mayor, mayor’ as Sotashe votes
“We are not contesting to lose,” Cape Town ANC mayoral candidate Xolani Sotashe told the crowd at Nomzamo Hall, in Ward 85.
|||Cape Town - Cape Town ANC mayoral candidate Xolani Sotashe has promised to bring about change in the city should he be elected.
“It is not about being a mayor, but it is about bringing change to our people. That is what the ANC will do, being a mayor is a bonus,” he said.
Sotashe had cast his vote at the Lwandle Hall, Ward 86, early on Wednesday morning. He later visited the Nomzamo Hall, in Ward 85, where he received a warm welcome by community members in the queue at the polling station.
Voters chanted “mayor, mayor!” as he walked about outside the voting station with some posing for pictures with him.
“We are not contesting to lose,” Sotashe told the crowd. “We are strong and believe that we did our best; our campaign was positive and our message is clear. The ANC is calling for integration in the city.
“We are optimistic and can't wait for the results to come out. We cannot wait for change in the city.”
Nomzamo resident Zodwa Tengani said the community trusted and believed in Sotashe.
“We know that he can help us and bring change. He is well known and is a mentor to the ANC councillor candidates in Lwandle. We believe he can help guide and work well with them should the ANC win.”
Outside the Nomzamo Hall, party volunteers from the ANC and DA were assisting voters.
