Shivambu confident of EFF support at polls

|||Johannesburg - Economic Freedom Fighters deputy president Floyd Shivambu said he was confident the party would garner at least a million votes even though the party was contesting local government elections for the first time.
Speaking at Moses Kotane Primary School in Braamfischerville, where he cast his ballot, Shivambu said the outcome of the municipal polls would surprise many people.
“After these elections we will be definitely be number one or two and we will be definitely be governing many municipalities in South Africa.”
He predicted that in the highly contested metros there would not be an outright winner.
“There's going to be a heavy battle on who gains total control on the metros but I'm sure that the EFF will win specific municipalities.”
He said the party was confident that it would govern Vuwani because it has strong support in the area irrespective of how residents violently protested earlier this year against a municipal demarcation board decision to integrate the area into another municipality.
An IEC official confirmed that the voting process at the voting station had been running smoothly since the morning, but said they experienced some problems with EFF members who wanted to enter the venue in their regalia.
“We have been given strict rules not to allow voters to enter the station in their regalia because this is not campaigning time.
Only political leaders are allowed to come in their regalia,” she said.
Outside the voting station, supporters of different parties braved the windy, dusty weather conditions and sang struggle songs.
