|||Durban - A woman has died in a voting queue in rural KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident happened earlier on Wednesday, the IEC's Mawethu Mosery said at a press briefing at the results centre in Durban just after midday.
The woman collapsed while waiting to vote at a station in Bulwer, inland of the province.
No more details have been released yet.
During the briefing, Mosery also said that in Inanda a ballot box was found near the road.
“We have established where it came from and authenticated its contents,” Mosery said, “The seal hasn't been broken.”
Initial indications are that that the ballot box fell off a vehicle.
But police were investigating to establish whether its misplacement was deliberate.
“In the meantime, we have suspended the responsible official and replaced him,” Mosery said.
More updates are expected later on Wednesday.
The counting of votes is expected to begin at the voting stations on Wednesday night , while results should start coming in around midnight.
