Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, immediate past CAN president
The 19 states mainly from the northern part of Nigeria accused the association’s immediate past president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of rigging them out in a recent election in order to install Ayokunke.
Announcing the rejection of Ayokunle, chairman of the association in Bauchi state, Reverend Joshua Maina, said: “All the 19 northern states were edged out of the process of the CAN president’s election.

“We suspect that there was connivance between the outgoing CAN president and some individuals at the helm of affairs of the association.
“It is unfortunate that the former CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, manipulated the entire process and ensured that his deputy Reverend Samson Ayokunle, succeeded him.
“If there is no skeleton in their cupboards, why are they evading court order regarding the legal process of CAN election?
“We are not fools because 19 northern states had supported somebody of Igbo extraction as CAN president.
“We are aware that other regions were later co-opted to join CAN, which has its roots in Jos.
“Out of the 30 years of CAN’s existence, the north has occupied the president’s position for only three years and we feel this is an injustice.”

Over the years, CAN and its leadership have witnessed various controversies and scandals making some clergymen to opt out of the association.
It is known that some popular men of God in the country including TB Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of the Believers Love World, also known as Christ Embassy, are not members.
Some Nigerians argue that the association, which is supposed to be an umbrella for Christians in the country, has been infiltrated by external factors resulting in intense politicking among members.
During the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Oritsejafor was hit by a scandal after his private jet was allegedly used to launder billions of dollars which the government later said was meant for arms purchase to prosecute the war against Boko Haram.

Oritsejafor however denied involvement in the scandal saying the jet was managed by a company which leased it out.
