SAD! 30-year-old former beauty queen is dead (photos)

Shakira Martin who was crowned Miss Jamaica Universe in 2011 has died on Wednesday, August 3, at the Memorial Hospital West, Pembroke Pines, USA.

The 30-year-old died as a result of blood clots on both lungs, complications of the sickle cell anemia she had since birth. Shakira used her reign as Miss Jamaica, as a platform to spread her personal gospel ‘Love Life.’

According to her mother’s Facebook post, Andrea Hall, she disclosed that the former Miss Jamaica Universe used her platform and notoriety to encourage others with sickle cell anemia to get out of their homes and into the sunshine.

However, she spent her last few hours unconscious on a life support machine as family and close friends surrounded her to say goodbye.
