Jamaican athlete and World fastest athlete, Usain Bolt has vowed to beat rival Justin Gatlin of the United States of America, as he targets an unprecedented treble-treble of gold medals at the Rio Olympics.
Reacting to Gatlin’s report that he was given ‘a medical pass’ to compete at the Olympics, hence, isn’t fit for the tournament, Bolt said he is ready to shut the American up by proving himself on the track.
Power and speed! Bolt goes head-to-head with Justin Gatlin
The six-time Olympic gold medalist told Reuters: “Yes definitely, I think they have not learned over the years that the more you talk, the more I will want to beat you.
“It’s one of those things, but I’m looking forward to it, should be exciting and they will feel my full wrath as always.”
Bolt, who returned to action in the 200 metres at last month’s Diamond League meeting in London, said he felt he was in better shape ahead of the opening race of his programme on August 13 – the 100 metres – than he was for last year’s world championships in Beijing.
“I’m feeling much more confident now.
“I’m much more comfortable with where I’m at.
“I never try to predict times, because you never know what will happen. But for me the shape I’m in, I’ll say I’m in much better shape, so I think 9.6 seconds definitely.”
Usain Bolt is the fastest man on Earth. His 2009 world record in the 100m coupled with gold medals at two Olympic Games mark him out as the man to beat at the Olympics in Rio this month.
In Berlin, at the 2009 World Championships, Bolt broke his own 100m world record of 9.69 seconds, set when winning gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He left Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell in his shadow, recording a barely believable 9.58 seconds.
