Basketball has been part of the Summer Olympics for 80 years, and over the course of 18 games, the United States has claimed 14 gold medals, one silver, two bronze, and failed to medal just once. It’s the kind of dominance that’s rare even for the Olympics, but while history suggests the United States’ men’s basketball team should walk away with yet another gold, this group is largely untested on the Olympic stage.
