How UNILAG students were arrested for armed robbery in Lagos

Two students of University of Lagos (UNILAG), identified as Kunle Shakiru and Moses Olowe have been arrested for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
They were said to have committed the offence on Friday, August 5 in the school premises.

The students were said to have been brought on Wednesday, August 24 before an Ebute Metta magistrates court in the state.
It was learnt that Shakiru, a 400-level student of Faculty Education is a native of Oyo state while Moses, a 300-level Technology of Education, hails from Ogun state.
The Nation reports that they used broken bottles to threaten four persons and robbed them of their valuables, which include X3 phone valued at N25,000, Nokia phone valued at N45,00, Black cap valued N1,000 and a sum of N6,000.

Prosecuting Inspector Gbemileke Aghoi said the defendants committed the offence on the faculty day called “Ankara Day” at 8pm on August 5.
Aghoi said the accused who were armed with a short gun, robbed some people of their various valuables valued at N35, 700.
He noted that the offence contravened section 409 of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
It also contravenes section (2) (a) (b) of the robbery and fire arms (Special Provisions Act), cap 398, vol. XXII, laws of the federation, 2003 as amended.

Magistrate H.O. Omisore granted them N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Omisore added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation who is not self employed.
She adjourned the case till September 20 and ordered the police to transfer the case to Office of Director Public Prosecutor for advice.
