Just in: Biafra splits again, third group sacks IPOB, TRIPOB
– A new group called RE-IPOB has broken away from the Biafra movement
– Spokesman for the group, Ikemba Biafra says that the group will choose its leader on Monday, August 29
– RE-IPOB says it is ready to dialogue for an end to the agitation if the federal government is sincere
Nnamdi Kanu, the acclaimed leader of IPOB is still in detention
The Biafra agitation has suffered a second setback in 24 hours after a third faction emerged from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, August 25.
According to reports in Vanguard, the new group, which is called the Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB) says it has sacked the IPOB led by the detained Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and the second faction called The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB).

RE-IPOB’s spokesperson, Ikemba Biafra said in a statement that the new faction was the result of a meeting held on Monday, August 22 in Aba, Abia state, which also produced TRIPOB. It also said it would present its leader on Monday, August 29.
The statement threatened that the group would expose the sponsors of IPOB if the parent movement and rival faction, TRIPOB ‘continue with their antics’.
“Both IPOB and TRIPOB have been sacked; they should no longer speak for the Biafran people. They are the same outfit and have nothing to offer Biafra. We warn that if Nnamdi Kanu , IPOB and the so-called TRIPOB continue their antics , RE-IPOB will be forced to make public the sponsors of the two groups. RE-IPOB will not accede to the burning of the Biafran flag as the sacked TRIPOB planned. The Biafran flag is sacred to Biafrans,” the statement read.
RE-IPOB also expressed readiness to dialogue with the federal government if it is sincere in ending the agitations for an independent state of Biafra.
“If the federal government is sincere in its dialogue with RE-IPOB, then the Biafran flag can be exchanged with the Nigerian flag in the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Security Adviser, Director of State Security and the Elders of Biafra. If the dialogue is fruitful; then a peace treaty and a ‘no victor no vanquished tree’ will be planted at Gakem where the first shot of the Nigerian Civil war started and at Amichi Nnewi where the formal cessation of hostilities of the war began.”
Meanwhile, IPOB has denied the emergence of new faction(s). The group on Wednesday said that the organisation remains united and strong in pursuing the cause of Biafra self-determination.
The head of media and publicity of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said the organisation under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had not changed and the loyalty of members was not in doubt.
“The only recognised IPOB is the one led by Nnamdi Kanu,” he said, adding that both locally and internationally there is no other group that goes by that name
A group called TRIPOB emerged on Wednesday, August 24 and threw supporters of Biafra into confusion.
