Pope proposes adding care for the environment as new work of mercy

Pope Francis proposed that caring for the environment be added to the traditional seven works of mercy— acts that Christians are called to perform— supplementing the Gospel-inspired calls to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit the sick.
