WWII vet with special connection to Virginia Beach flew plane named for city

0
During WWII, Charles Miller flew 25 B-17 missions over Europe. In 1945, he volunteered to fly B-29 bombers. To boost morale, each plane was to be named after a U.S. city. Miller’s first choice, his hometown of Richmond, was taken. So he decided his warplane would honor the place that had given him so many fond summer memories. Emblazoned on one side of the fuselage: City of Virginia Beach.
