|||Durban - A man and his teenage son have been arrested for allegedly breaking into the home of a Verulam policeman.
Reaction Unit South Africa's Prem Balram said the two, with the help of a family friend, reportedly broke into the home of a police detective and stole goods worth R50 000.
The items included 150 pet fish, fishing rods and generators. He said the detective called Reaction Unit South Africa last week and they searched for the father.
The search took them to Phoenix and Verulam where the father, 40, had previously lived.
They eventually found him in Brindhaven, Verulam.
Balram said while they were questioning the man, he admitted to committing the crime with his 18-year-old son and a family friend, also aged 18.
"Reaction officers proceeded to the suspects' home in Missionland and recovered all the stolen items," Balram said.
However, the fish they had stolen had died by the time the Reaction Unit officers arrived.
The family friend was arrested at a clothing factory and the son was arrested near a Verulam recreation ground.
Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said the three would appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Monday.
